Monday Bellringer: Journal Entry
Tim O’Brien catalogues the possessions of his characters in the novel The Things They Carried. Each soldier packs, or humps, the weight of their necessities, whether real or abstract. In your journal entry, describe what possessions you pack everyday. What are the things you carry? How much do they weigh? Why do you carry them? Make sure and describe real and imaginary objects.
In your journal, use the following sentence starts and underline them.
1. A gerund:
Ex: Carrying backpacks hurts your back.
2. An infinitive: To think, to work, to describe, to lift
Ex: To list my luggage would take all day.
3. A list of adjectives: Sunny, warm, and yellow, the sun shines all day.
Ex: Heavy, gloomy, and damp, my wet jacket weighed three pounds.
